About Latechia
Latechia Hester, LCMHC, LCPC, brings 24 years of counseling experience to her work. She uses clear, practical methods to help people manage stress, anxiety, addictions, trauma, depression, relationship and parenting struggles, and ADHD. Her approach is direct and compassionate, aimed at helping someone find steady ground and make real changes.
She began her career in 2001 as a group home counselor for at-risk young men and their families. That early work included helping with family reunification, life skills, job readiness, and substance use concerns.
Background and approach
She later focused on addiction services, working with DUI offenders, court-mandated clients for anger management, and serving as an interventionist for people and families facing addiction and codependency. After completing a master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, she worked in an outpatient hospital clinic supporting people with depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, PTSD, and co-occurring conditions.
A second master’s in School Counseling added experience with students navigating body image concerns, self-harm, ADHD, trauma, and LGBTQ+ issues in an inner-city school setting. Her clinical style combines cognitive behavioral ideas, motivational interviewing, and solution-focused work. She also practices client-centered and mindfulness approaches, adapting techniques to match each person’s needs.
Sessions focus on practical skills, clearer thinking, and small steps that build momentum. Her goal is to help people move toward healthier, happier lives. She emphasizes respect, dignity, and collaboration in every session.
This work aims to empower clients to make sustainable changes and regain hope.
Approaches that guide online work and practical benefits
Latechia often uses cognitive behavioral techniques to help people identify unhelpful thought patterns and practice new behaviors. CBT is useful for anxiety, depression, ADHD-related challenges with organization and focus, and for building routine habits. She also draws on motivational interviewing to help people find internal reasons to change. This approach supports shifting motivation around substance use, codependency, or making lifestyle changes by exploring personal goals and ambivalence.
Finding the best approach is part of the work together. The therapist will discuss options, try techniques, and adjust based on the client's goals, preferences, and what feels most helpful. This collaborative process aims to make therapy feel relevant and doable.
Online formats include video calls, phone sessions, live chat, and text-based messaging. Video is good for full conversations that benefit from visual cues, while phone calls can fit into a short break or require less bandwidth. Live chat and text messaging work well for quick check-ins, homework support, or when writing feels easier than talking. These options make it simpler to keep continuity of care while balancing work, school, or family commitments.
